Binge-eating disorder is a common psychiatric condition which has adverse metabolic consequences. With only 1 drug approved for its treatment, more are needed urgently. The evidence supports the hypothesis that this condition is an impulse control disorder with similarities to ADHD. The most promising areas for new treatments for binge-eating disorder are drugs that augment noradrenergic and dopaminergic neurotransmission and/or those which are effective in ADHD.
